Livestream: “Micropolis: Black is the New Black”

Jun 03, 2015

The series “Micropolis Live: Race and Culture in New York” recently received unexpected national attention thanks to one panelists’ spirited shut-down of an audience member trying to defend blackface at its last event, “Funny or Racist?”

Tonight, the second-to-last installment in this five-part series of talks focuses on black men’s fashion and its intersections with art, globalization and masculinity. Hosted by WNYC’s Arun Venugopal (also the series’s founder) and WHMT reporter Jenna Flanagan, the panel will feature music executive Hollis King, acclaimed tailor and fashion icon Dapper Dan of Harlem, and CNN/BET Networks’s Michaela Angela Davis.

If you can’t make it to Greenwich Village’s Greene Space for the event, then be sure to check out the livestream when the panel kicks off at 7 PM EST.

“Micropolis Live: Race and Culture in New York” is a project within the NEXT New York Conversation, which aims to bring cultural and media figures together to “illuminate relevant topics that are redefining and reshaping our 21st century.” Click here for more information on the Conversation and Micropolis, as well as ticketing info for those in New York.
