‘Insecure,’ ‘One Day at a Time’ Earn Peabody Award Nominations

The Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia announced several artists and media creators of color among this year’s Peabody Awards nominees yesterday (April 10). 


The 77th Peabody Awards nomination pool features 60 projects in several categories, including documentary film, scripted television, radio/podcasts and televised news. “These stories reflect important social issues and exemplify the power of diverse voices and platforms in media today," Peabody Awards executive director Jeffrey P. Jones said in the announcement. 


Here are just a few of the honored films and programs from creators of color that deal with racial identity and injustice:



Comedian Hasan Minhaj, who earned a nod for "Homecoming King," will host the awards ceremony in New York City on May 19. The Board of Jurors will reveal the winners ahead of time in a series of announcements on April 12, 17, 19 and 24.
