A 19-year-old student at Indiana University was arrested this weekend after attacking a Muslim woman in Bloomington while screming racial epithets and slogans like "white power."

Triceten Bickford was charged with six counts—including charges of public intoxication, misdemeanor and felony battery, strangulation and battery of a police officer—for the attack. According to Fox59’s report, Bickford allegedly shouted "white power" and "kill them all" at the woman, who was at a cafe with her husband and nine-year-old daughter, before grabbing her neck and slamming her head into the table. Her husband and another bystander pulled Bickford off her and pinned him to the ground until police arrived. Although the woman’s identity was not revealed, a Bloomington police report cited by NBC/WTHR said that Bickford was yelling epithets against African Americans. The woman reported neck pain, but did not require medical attention.

Bickford also attempted to kick out the police car’s windows and bit an officer as he was being removed from the car.

Advocacy group Muslim Public Affairs Council issued a statement on Facebook today insisting that Bickford’s assault be investigated as a hate crime:
