Singer Andra Day tore the house down when she performed her uplifting single “Rise Up” at BET’s “Black Girls Rock!“

The concert and awards show, taped Friday (April 1) and broadcast last night (April 5), celebrated Black girls and women with stirring performances from the likes of Day, Lauryn Hill and honoree Gladys Knight. Tracee Ellis Ross hosted the show, which honored the achievements of Knight, Shonda Rimes, Amandla Stenberg and other prominent changemakers. The concert also celebrated the 10th anniversary of its namesake, youth empowerment non-profit Black Girls Rock! Founded by DJ Beverly Bond, Black Girls Rock! uses mentorship, media analysis and arts education to further its mission of empowering young Black girls and women.
