Kendrick Lamar was the last musical guest on “The Colbert Report,” so it makes some amount of sense that after a banner 2015 touring behind the success of the excellent “To Pimp A Butterfly,” he’d become Colbert’s first featured musical guest as the latter takes over the “The Late Show.” And just like his last performance on a Colbert show, he set the stage ablaze.
With a backing band once again featuring Thundercat on bass and Bilal on backing vocals, the rapper tore through a medley Wednesday night featuring the new album’s standout tracks “Wesley’s Theory,” “Momma,” “King Kunta,” and “U.” Needless to say, we hope this is a promising sign of things to come for future musical performances on the “The Late Show.”
Check out a video of the stellar performance above.
