Auntie Beachress wants Indigenous people to resist voter suppression and cast their votes in the November 6 midterm elections. In a new public service announcement for the #StandNVote campaign,  the brash alterego of Lakota/Hidatsa comedian Tonia Jo Hall states her case alongside community members and Hollywood’s Mark Ruffalo ("The Avengers" franchise) and Shailene Woodley ("Big Little Lies"). Stand-N-Vote is a partnership of Native Americans in Philanthropy, Rock the Vote, Native Voice Network, Western Native Voice, Montana Native Vote and United We Stand. 

Watch as Beachress addresses issues such as tribal sovereignty, political cynicism and racist voter ID policies in the PSA, which the campaign published to YouTube on Wednesday (October 24).

Beachress will continue this mission for Native voting by appearing at a free concert and voting drive tomorrow (October 27) at the Prairie Knights Casino on the Standing Rock reservation in North Dakota. The concert features Prolific the Rapper, Dave Matthews and Scotti Clifford & Spirits Cry.

Stand-N-Vote developed the concert after the Supreme Court of the United States upheld a North Dakota law that prevents people with a P.O. box listed on their state or tribal ID from voting. Native activists say the law, like other voter ID laws across the country, violates the Voting Rights Act and functionally disenfranchises thousands of Indigenous people—especially those living in poverty and unable to receive mail at a permanent home address. Western Native Voice and other organizations will be on site to help attendees get the necessary identification. The concert will also livestream at StandNVote.org.
