Facing criticism for using an outmoded term for people of color, “Good Morning America” host Amy Robach issued an apology yesterday (August 22).
Controversy erupted during a segment about diversity in Hollywood and Zendaya Coleman’s casting as Mary Jane Parker in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ movie reboot. “We all know Hollywood has received recent and quite a bit of criticism for casting White actors in what one might assume should be a role reserved for colored people,” Robach said. She was seemingly referring to the backlash surrounding the recent casting of White actors in roles originally written for people of color.
As The Associated Press reports, Robach released a statement to media outlets saying that she meant to say “people of color” and that the incident is ”not at all a reflection of how I feel or speak in my everyday life.”
