Today we want to share an upcoming documentary that takes a closer look at the uptown neighborhood we know and love as Harlem. "Changing Face of Harlem" explores the multitude of issues transforming and challenging Harlem today. The film takes viewers through the history of the area’s glamorous past as a center of black culture, to an economic downturn experienced in the 80s due in part to bank policies of redlining, and the last decade of renewed corporate and commercial interest that continue to alter community dynamics today.

The film includes interviews with longtime residents, business owners, politicians, developers and clergy, who express a range of opinions, hopes, and concerns for the future of the famous neighborhood. The story sheds light on the complex intersections of race, class, cultural preservation and community reinvestment in the face of gentrification, and the fight for affordable housing juxtaposed to an influx of luxury developers.

"Changing Face of Harlem" is in post-production and the filmmakers are currently raising funds to complete the project.
