Many artists and celebrities have already taken to social media to address the massacre of nine black civilians at the historic Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson cited a report on a thwarted slave and freeblack rebellion in antebellum Charleston on Instagram. Solange Knowles tweeted the damning questions, "Where can we be safe? Where can we be free? Where can we be black?" Killer Mike even had some words to say about how the Second Amendment could’ve helped those in the church.

Mike’s message was very different from President Obama’s on how he wishes gun violence would not befall innocent civilians, and his words resonated with Fresno-bred rapper Fashawn. The MC, who released his acclaimed sophomore album "The Ecology" this February on Nas’s Mass Appeal Records, is one of only a few artists to have made public, non-social-media statements on the massacre. He made his statements on BET.com, after hearing about the shooting and the president’s comments at the network offices: 

“I feel like violence doesn’t solve anything. Period,” he tells BET.com “Whoever the kid was behind the gun, he probably had sick things he was dealing with in his own life for him to be provoked and go inside a church and kill nine people. That’s just tragic. That’s not logical to me. There’s no rationale in that at all.”

“I totally agree with Obama, we definitely need to put the emphasis on these gun laws and examine them for a little bit,” he says.  “And figure them out. So we can have justice and peace in our streets.”
