Multihyphenate artist Donald Glover joins forces with a key member of his all-Black "Atlanta" writing squad—his brother Stephen—for a new animated superhero show.

Marvel announced yesterday (May 10) that the Golden Globe winners will turn the comic giant’s Deadpool series into an adult-oriented cartoon on FX sister network FXX. The Glovers will write, produce and showrun the still-untitled series, which already has an order for 10 episodes.

"Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit, ‘Atlanta,’" FX Productions’ co-president of original programming Nick Grad said in Marvel’s announcement.

The series will premiere in 2018. The cast has not yet been announced.

Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds most recently portrayed Deadpool and his alter-ego, mercenary Wade Wilson, in Marvel’s 2016 film. The animated series’ adult audience corresponds with the character’s penchant for graphic violence and crass humor.

Donald Glover’s relationship with Marvel began with a social media campaign advocating for him to headline a live-action Spider-Man film. Glover voiced Afro-Latino teen Miles Morales, the current official webslinger, in Disney XD’s "Ultimate Spider-Man" and he also makes a cameo in the forthcoming live-action "Spider-Man: Homecoming."

As for "Atlanta," Deadline reported in January that the FX series’ second season will premiere in early 2018.
