Don Cheadle’s Miles Davis Biopic to Close Out New York Film Festival

Jul 23, 2015

According to an announcement from the Film Society of Lincoln Center, Don Cheadle’s latest film "Miles Ahead" will be screened as the closing film at the heralded New York Film Festival. This will be the Miles Davis biopic’s debut screening.

The film, directed and co-written by Cheadle, features him as the titular pioneering trumpeter and composer whose lengthy career navigated bebop, cool jazz, fusion, and hip-hop. Cheadle stars alongside Emayatzy Corinealdi ("Middle of Nowhere") and Ewan McGregor ("Trainspotting"). The highly-anticipated "Miles Ahead" specifically looks at Davis in the 1970s, when the musician was breaking new ground in funk and at the peak of his various substance and health issues, hiding away in his Manhattan apartment.

Cheadle had this to say about the Film Society’s honor:

“I am happy that the selection committee saw fit to invite us to the dance. It’s very gratifying that all the hard work that went into the making of this film, from every person on the team, has brought us here. Miles’ music is all-encompassing, forward-leaning, and expansive. He changed the game time after time, and New York is really where it all took off for him. Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center… feels very ‘right place, right time.’ Very exciting.”

The New York Film Festival will take place between September 25 and October 11. Click here for more details.
