Disney Jr. Enlists All-Desi Cast for ‘Mira, Royal Detective’

Disney announced new animated series “Mira, Royal Detective" on Twitter yesterday (November 29): 

rntEntertainment Weekly reports that the series, which will premiere on Disney Junior in 2020, follows the adventures of its titular child protagonist in the fictional kingdom of Jalpur. After solving a mystery involving the royal Prince Neel, the civilian Mira teams up with Neel, her cousin Priya and mongooses Mikku and Chikku to lend her skills throughout Jalpur.

People says the show will bring its South Asian characters and themes to life with Disney’s first all-Desi voice cast. Leela Ladnier ("Touch") and Kamran Lucas ("Mech-X4") will voice Mira and Prince Neel, respectively. Indian-American actors Aparna Nancherla ("Master of None"), Utkarsh Ambudkar ("Blindspotting") and Kal Penn ("Harold and Kumar") also join a roster that includes Jameela Jamil ("The Good Place"), Aasif Mandvi ("Blue Bloods"), Sarita Choudhury ("Mississippi Masala"), Hannah Simone ("New Girl") and others from throughout the South Asian diaspora.
