"The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story" actor Courtney B. Vance returns to FX for a series based on the real life story of a thwarted multi-million-dollar bank fraud scheme. 

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) reported yesterday (November 27) that the Emmy Award winner will star in and executive produce "Heist 88." Vance will play the lead role of veteran con artist Armand Moore, who convinced four employees of the now-defunct First National Bank of Chicago to commit the show’s titular heist in 1988. The Chicago Tribune recounts that Moore attempted to defraud the bank of almost $70 million, which he siphoned from corporate accounts to offshore holdings using wire transfer services. The Tribune quotes a prosecutor at the time, who called the plan "the most massive and almost successful computer crime I’m aware of in the history of the United States." A federal judge sentenced Moore to a decade and five months of incarceration for conspiracy to commit fraud. He received an additional 25-year sentence for plotting to escape prison and commit another bank fraud.

Vance will work with an entirely Black creative team, including director Anthony Hemingway ("Red Tails," "The People V. O.J. Simpson") and screenwriter Dwayne Johnson-Cochran ("Love and Action in Chicago"). All three men will executive produce alongside Pam Veasey ("In Living Color," "CSI: NY") and Hemingway’s producing partner Mark Taylor ("Unsolved").
