A Cleveland Public Safety Division of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) employee was fired last week for comments posted to his Facebook page concerning Tamir Rice, the 12-year-old Black boy who was killed by police officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback in November 2014.

Local station Fox 8 first reported in February that Jamie Marquardt, an EMS captain, posted the following on Facebook:

Tamir Rice should have been shot and I am glad he is dead. I wish I was in the park that day as he terrorized innocent patrons by pointing a gun at them. I am upset I did not get the chance to kill the little criminal [expletive].

Marquardt later posted that someone “picked up my phone and made some awful posts under my name. I want to apologize for those who thought it was me. I do not believe or stand for what was written.”

The city’s Office of Integrity Control did not believe him. Following an investigation, Marquardt was fired.

“The posts were not acceptable and do not represent the views or standards of the City of Cleveland administration, Department of Public Safety or Division of Emergency Medical Services," city spokesperson Dan Williams told Cleveland.com.
