As new stories of police brutality and misconduct continue to surface, CBS is turning one of the biggest movies about crooked cops into a series—and switching the races of the leads.

Deadline reports that CBS has approved a pilot order for “Training Day,” a new series based on the 2001 film about a rogue Los Angeles Police Department detective who trains, and eventually faces off against, a younger detective. Denzel Washington won an Oscar in the “Actor in a Leading Role” category for his performance as the sadistic “Alonzo Harris,” who’s biggest line was, ”King Kong ain’t got shit on me!”

The pilot, which will be directed by original “Training Day” director Antoine Fuqua, takes place fifteen years after the original and features a Black officer training under a corrupt White force veteran, according to Deadline. Prolific producer Jerry Bruckheimer is on board to co-executive produce with Fuqua and pilot writer Will Beall.
