When Blackalicious released its 2005 album "The Craft," it was part of a bumper crop of early-aughts hip-hop artists lauded for experimentation and agile flows. Now, after a decade-long absence, the California duo is back with more fire than ever. 

The video for hard-spitting track "On Fire Tonight" sets the song’s rhymes against striking clips of police violence and protests against that violence. Many of the clips were taken from dashcam and witness footage of controversial arrests and killings. The track features singer Myron, and it is the latest release from Blackalicious’ latest album, "Imani Vol. 1." Released in September, it is the group’s first project in 10 years. DJ and producer Chief Xcel described the album to The Guardian in the following terms: 

"Our audience seems to be people who see music and art as essential parts of life, and not just disposable accessories," Chief Xcel said of the album. "That’s who we make music for—people who need it in their life. I’m one of those people. Imani is Swahili for faith, and that’s really where we’re at at this juncture. We’re so rooted in our purpose that we don’t have to second-guess, we just know. There’s no fear of the unknown, there’s just the fire to move forward and get to wherever the journey takes us."
