Some of the most-visible representatives of the movement to protect Black lives met with senior White House officials on Wednesday. 

According to a report from Buzzfeed, confirmed through various social media posts by invited activists, senior White House advisor Valerie Jarrett and deputy assistant to the president for urban affairs Roy Austin spoke with a variety of activists about public safety, community policing and police brutality. Activists in attendance reportedly included "Phil Agnew of the Dream Defenders; DeRay Mckesson, Brittany Packnett and Johnetta Elzie of Campaign Zero; and Jamye Wooten, an organizer for Baltimore United for Change." Jarrett emphasized the importance of implementing recommendations from President Obama’s 21st Century Task Force on Policing.

For the Campaign Zero affilates, this meeting followed one earlier in the day with presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Said Sanders on the matter: “I look forward to a continuing dialogue with Campaign Zero and other voices from communities of color to address deeply entrenched racial and economic problems in our country.” 

While many of the details of the meeting have not been made public, right wing-affiliated publications and media users were critical of the meeting, with RightWingNews.com (predictably) calling it "a blatant slap in the face" to law enforcement officials.
