Bill Withers Tribute at Carnegie Hall to Feature D’Angelo, Aloe Blacc, and Others

Fresh off of his induction into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame, soul legend Bill Withers is at the center of another massive tribute to his legacy.

Musicians as varied as D’Angelo, Ed Sheeran, Aloe Blacc, Gregory Porter, and Dr. John will assemble at Carnegie Hall on October 1 to recreate Withers’s classic 1973 album "Live at Carnegie Hall. " More artists will be announced—perhaps to account for the surprising omission of John Legend and The Roots, whose rendition of the anti-Vietnam burner "I Can’t Write Left Handed" might be one of the best covers of all time.

Withers is set to make an appearance at the show, appropriately titled "Lean on Him," in a stage of his career where public appearances are extremely rare. Tickets are available through Carnegie Hall’s website, while VIP tickets (running upwards of $300) are available through MusicOf.org. All net proceeds will go to the Stuttering Association of the Young, reflecting Withers’s own struggles with stuttering and dedication to the cause.

The concert is presented by Knitting Factory founder Michael Dorf, who has produced numerous other charity tribute concerts at Carnegie Hall.
