The “Lemonade” artist leads the pack with nine nominations. Three of them are in the competition’s top categories: “Song of the Year,” “Record of the Year” (both for “Formation”) and “Album of the Year” (for “Lemonade”).
Frequent Grammys critic Kanye West also received eight nominations in five categories, including all four rap categories. West, who was recently released from a hospital after treatment for “exhaustion” and the abrupt cancellation of his remaining tour dates, previously said that he would boycott the ceremony if Frank Ocean wasn’t nominated. Ocean did not sumbit his sophomore album, “Blonde,” for consideration.
Chance the Rapper, who took out an ad in Billboard asking for consideration, was nominated in the “Best New Artist” category, where takes on acclaimed R&B singer Anderson .Paak. Chance is up for seven awards.
The 59th Grammy Awards ceremony will air live on CBS on February 12. Read the full list of nominees here, and let us know in the comments if you think anyone was snubbed.
