Beyoncé invoked the aesthetics and joy of homecomings at historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) during her history-making Coachella set on Saturday (April 14). The artist is now pledging her support to students at four of these institutions through a new scholarship initiative.

Bey announced the Homecoming Scholars Award Program via her official website yesterday (April 16). This is the newest project from her philanthropic initiative, BeyGOOD, and the second to grant scholarships to university students.

The statement noted that the program will award $25,000 scholarships to one student each at four different HBCUs—Bethune-Cookman University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Tuskegee University and Wilberforce University—for the 2018-2019 academic year. The universities will select the winners, who must maintain a grade point average of at least 3.5, this summer. Neither BeyGOOD nor any of the affiliated institutions mentioned application procedures or deadlines as of press time.

"We salute the rich legacy of historically Black colleges and universities," wrote Ivy McGregor, Director of Philanthropy and Corporate Relations at BeyGOOD‘s parent company Parkwood Entertainment, in the announcement. "We honor all institutions of higher learning for maintaining culture and creating environments for optimal learning which expands dreams and the seas of possibilities for students."

BeyGOOD did not confirm if the $25,000 will also cover dues for Beta Delta Kappa membership.
