Beyoncé, ‘The Birth of a Nation, ‘Moonlight’ Lead NAACP Image Award Noms

By Sameer Rao Dec 14, 2016

Beyoncé and "Moonlight" further solidified their awards season dominance by leading the 48th NAACP Image Awards‘ nominations list.

The "Lemonade" artist earned seven nominations, more than any individual nominee. She faces Viola Davis, Chance the Rapper, Regina King and Dwayne Johnson in the "Entertainer of the Year" category.

Barry Jenkins’ "Moonlight" tied with "The Birth of a Nation" for six nominations, more than any other film this year. The nods for "Birth" are the movie’s first significant honors after this summer’s renewed attention for director Nate Parker‘s 1999 rape trial.

The Image Awards also recognized several new works, including the TV series "Insecure," "Atlanta", "Luke Cage" and "Queen Sugar."

The 48th NAACP Image Awards ceremony will air live on TV One on February 11, with nominee and "Black-ish" star Anthony Anderson hosting. Read the full list of nominees here, and let us know your predicted winners in the comments.
