Why Wisconsin GOP Is Keen on Voter IDs

Jeff Chang points out it's because youth organizing was so key for Wisc. Dems from 2004 to 2008.

Former Colorlines editor and general brilliant guy Jeff Chang adds this important context to Julianne Hing’s news report on Wisconsin and voter ID laws around the country (via our Facebook page):

The WHY of this: in 2004, 2006, and 2008 efforts to organize youth of color were spectacularly successful. In 2008, the increase in new young voters alone switched WI back to [Obama] in the last weeks of the election. Now that 2010 has given Republicans an opening, they’re trying to move quickly.

Check out Jamilah King’s pre-election reporting from Milwaukee on where those youth went in the 2010 election.

And speaking of interesting stuff Chang said, also check out his thoughts after the 2010 elections: It’s the culture, stupid.
