Where Are We Fighting for Racial Justice?

by Sonia Peña While most of us have been focused on this years historical presidential election, it’s important for those of us interested in Racial Justice to turn some attention to key local and statewide fights that are a vital importance to communities of color. Yesterday, I sat in on a call organized by the Equal Justice Society that gave participants an update on the three state campaigns attempting to defeat Ward Connerly’s anti-affirmative action efforts. The good news is that the organizers in Arizona managed to get the measure knocked off the November ballot. Congratulations! However, in Colorado and Nebraska, groups are uniting their efforts to defeat the measures with legal challenges as well as on the ground organizing, outreach and education. What racial justice electoral fights are you engaged in, and how are groups in your state meeting the challenge?
