WATCH: Check Out a New Clip from Animated Short ‘Sanjay’s Super Team’

Pixar is making history with "Sanjay’s Super Team," a new short about a young superhero-obsessed Desi boy. It’s the animation giant’s first short to be helmed by an Indian-American director. Bored by his father’s traditional Hindu customs, Sanjay reimagines the pantheon of Hindu deities as superheroes in an action-packed saga (which, if you read any of the Hindu epics, makes some sense).

Director by animator Sanjay Patel, the short is based on aspects of his own life. As he explained in an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Sanjay’s experiences in the film reflect a lot of the culture clash he felt growing up in the United States:

"If I could, I would go back to the 1980s and give my younger self this short," Patel said. "I want to normalize and bring a young brown boy’s story to the pop culture zeitgeist. To have a broad audience like Pixar’s see this … it is a big deal. I’m so excited about that."

Check out the clip above. "Sanjay’s Super Team" will premiere on November 25 as an opener for Pixar’s "The Good Dinosaur."
