FX’s "Atlanta" and NBC’s "This Is Us" each rode the strength of their predominantly Black writing teams to recognition at every major television awards ceremony this year. The shows continued this success with key wins at Saturday’s (August 5) Television Critics Association Awards.

Per the television journalists association’s list, "Atlanta" won in the Outstanding Achievement in Comedy category, while creator and star Donald Glover earned the Individual Achievement in Comedy award. "This is Us" took home the Outstanding New Program statue. Both programs lost the Program of the Year award to "The Handmaid’s Tale," with whom they tied for the most nominations at four each.

Additionally, Ezra Edelman‘s ESPN docuseries "O.J.: Made in America" earned the Outstanding Achievement in News and Information award. His is the only other project tackling racial and social justice and developed by a Black creator or diverse team to receive one of this year’s 12 awards.
