Last night, the 64th Annual Tony Awards rocked Radio City Music Hall in New York City. With some amazing productions and actors of color in the running, it did not disappoint. It was the first time in Tony Award history that Black performers won best actress and actor awards in a play in the same theater season. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, both starring in "Fences", won the leading actor and actress awards. The leading actor in a play award hasn’t been won by a Black actor since 1987. "Fences" also took home the best revival of a play award.

Other notable wins: "Memphis" received the best musical award while "Fela!" took home the best choreography award by Bill T. Jones, best costume design and best sound design of a musical.
