TONIGHT: Watch Alice Walker, Jennifer Hudson Discuss ‘The Color Purple’ Live

By Sameer Rao Oct 29, 2015

Nearly a decade after the premiere of its original Broadway run, "The Color Purple" is coming back this December for a much-anticipated revival.

In anticipation, the New York Times’s Times Talks series—which hosts public conversations with popular entertainment luminaries—is featuring several of the musical’s key players on stage for a candid chat and series of performances. Alice Walker, the Pulitzer-winning author of the book that spawned the show, joins the production’s Tony-winning director John Doyle, Oscar-winning singer and actress Jennifer Hudson (Shug) and Cynthia Erivo (who played Celie the 2010 London run) at The New School’s John L. Tishman Auditorium tonight.

Moderated by The New York Times theater reporter Michael Paulson, the event will be livestreamed via the Times Talks website. You can check out the livestream above when it starts at 7:30 EST tonight.
