While Romney was campaigning in South Carolina on Saturday he met a 55-year-old black unemployed woman named Ruth Williams… and I’ll let [ABC News](http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/01/romney-gives-unemployed-woman-cash-on-ropeline/) report the rest: "he did something he has never done before on the ropeline: He took out his wallet and handed a wad of cash to a woman waiting to shake his hand." The story has been making the rounds and present Romney as a man who’s not as out touch or as [cold as his rivals present him](http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/election-2012/post/mitt-romney-gives-cash-to-financially-struggling-woman-at-south-carolina-rally/2012/01/14/gIQAbxHRzP_blog.html). Not so fast says MSNBC contributor Joy-Ann Reid. "It plays in to that conservative meme that you don’t need actual programs that the government puts in place to help people in need," Reid said on MSNBC. She said instead of Romney discussing government programs that could actually help the woman in the long run he just took charity route. Watch Reid below.
