Over the weekend, Reverend Jeremiah Wright finally began making appearances speaking out against the attacks made on him and his church. After YouTube clips of Wright’s sermons stirred such a controversy that Barack Obama had to formally distance himself from the soundbytes and deliver a significant speech on race, Wright has been making the rounds to set the record straight about his faith, his patriotism, and his thoughts on American policies. On Friday, PBS aired an interview between Wright and Bill Moyers, Sunday, he spoke at an NAACP dinner in Detroit, and this morning, Wright fielded questions at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. In each appearance, Wright took moments to make a distinction between his role as a pastor and Obama’s role as a Senator. Wright said to a crowd of 10,000 at the NAACP event, "I’m not here for political reasons. "I am not a politician. I know that fact will surprise many of you because many in the corporate-owned media have made it seem as if I had announced that I’m running for the Oval Office. I am not running for the Oval Office. I’ve been running for Jesus a long, long time, and I’m not tired yet." Check out video of the Bill Moyers interview.
