MTV Follows Pulse Massacre Survivors in New Episode of ‘True Life’

By Sameer Rao Aug 16, 2016

Nearly two months after Omar Mateen massacred 49 mostly Latinx people at the Pulse Orlando nightclub, thereby perpetrating this country’s largest mass shooting, MTV followed four survivors’ ongoing journey to rebuild their lives.

Tiara Parker, Tony Marrero, Patience Carter and Joshua McGill all feature in "True Life: We Are Orlando," which aired last night (August 15). Parker, Marrero and Carter all sustained gunshot wounds during the shooting, while McGill offered medical aid to another survivor. This episode of MTV’s longtime documentary series follows their lives in the aftermath of the mass shooting. MTV also issued a series of teasers and digital exclusives featuring survivors and Orlando residents of various backgrounds describing issues like gun control, nightclub security and broader anti-LGBTQ violence.
