Keystone State Plastered With Racist Posters

By Donna Hernandez May 16, 2008

In January 2008, Keystone Skinheads, a hate group, posted messages from New York to Philadelphia encouraging people to take back their neighborhoods. The poster doesn’t address where white residents are newly popping up. One of the major reasons white flight is happening is because people are so eager to move into neighborhoods like Harlem and Bedford Stuyvesant. These traditionally communities of color are now being gentrified and becoming more and more unaffordable. The white supremacist group is now posting fliers throughout the city of Philadelphia and other parts of PA like the one below. What this poster does not highlight are the structurally racist polices that have led to each of these incidents nor do they highlight the disproportionate amount of people of color who have been brutalized by racist police departments across the US. Fliers like these, with no dialogue or accurate history, do nothing but ensue hate amongst people of color and white Americans. Even though it is structurally racist policies that are to blame for the destruction of many of our communities, others, like this group, have the audacity to blame it on people of color. Albeit, the same people of color, who have raised your children, cleaned your houses, cultivated your fields, beautified your community gardens/murals and added a spirit of love and understanding to neighborhoods. This is highly unacceptable and clearly a message of hate. My nieces and nephews in grade school and high school have seen these posters, but they are wise enough to realize they were posted by a hate group. Why haven’t these cities forced them to take them down yet?
