‘Hip Hop Honors’ Returns, Will Exclusively Big Up Women

By Kenrya Rankin May 24, 2016

Six years after it last aired, VH1 is bringing back its “Hip Hop Honors” broadcast. And this year’s show, slated to air live on July 11, comes with a twist: It will exclusively feature women.

Per yesterday’s (May 23) announcement: “The show will pay homage to the female pioneers, trailblazers and trendsetters who lead a movement and infiltrated the ranks of the male-dominated genre to make their voices heard and still do today.”

The honorees have not yet been named, but Shadow And Act reports that Queen Latifah’s Flavor Unit will partner with Shakim Compere (“The Art of Organized Noize”), Mona Scott-Young (“Love and Hip Hop”) and Jac Benson II (previous “Hip Hop Honors” broadcasts) to co-executive produce the show.
