Halloween PSA: Stay Away From Racist Costumes, America

By Yessenia Funes Oct 28, 2016

It’s the end of October, meaning one thing: Halloween, or The Night of Blatant Racism, as the Latinx news site mitú put it.

As seen in the movie trailer for "The Night of Blatant Ricism," mitú’s fictional horror movie, people of color all too often have to deal with offensive costumes—and the excuses of those wearing them—during the holiday.

"You’re trivializing the genocide of an entire group of people," says a woman of color in the video, speaking to a White women in a Native American costume. When she sees another White women rocking a braided wig repeating the word "ratchet," she says, "You’re perpetuating harmful stereotypes against Black women!"

Watch the trailer and let us know your thoughts below on costumes which threaten to take the fun out of Halloween for people of color.
