Everybody from media activists to journalists and publishers will be throwing around bright ideas and hashing out challenges, and if you’re a media junkie who can’t make it to the meeting, you should follow our news editor Jamilah King as she tweets the whole thing out.

I’ll be on a panel Saturday morning with some journalism vets talking about how old school news-gathering outfits like ours can reshape themselves to take advantage of new school publishing platforms. It’s a familiar conversation in some ways, one we’ve been having in the industry for a decade. But independent and community based media like Colorlines is often lost in the bipolar focus on the fall of corporate news and the rise of the latest, for-profit startup. We’ll talk about both the opportunities and the challenges that mission-driven outlets like ours face these days.

Our publisher Rinku Sen will be on the closing plenary Sunday, and Jamilah is on several panels today and tomorrow talking about the telecom industry and access to broadband in communities of color.
