The most recognized face in Spanish news in the U.S., Jorge Ramos, has donated $20,000 of his personal funds to support scholarships for future beneficiaries of the DREAM Act.

Ramos has been the face of the Univision’s evening news show "Noticiero Univision" for the past twenty-one years. For young Latinos, Ramos’ support is more than just a financial contribution because many of them who would benefit from the DREAM Act have grown up with the sound Ramos’ voice reading national and international news in their homes.

"The failure of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, to pass the DREAM Act or any other meaningful immigration reform this year has deeply saddened me," Ramos said in a press release. "I am determined to help these talented young immigrants move forward with their lives, despite the obstacles beyond their control."

Mr. Ramos came to the United States as a student in 1983. "As an immigrant myself, I feel it is my duty to speak out and help other immigrants, especially those who believe in higher education as a way to advance themselves. I encourage other individuals and companies to join me in supporting these talented students so they can contribute meaningfully to this country."

The scholarships will be administered by Educators for Fair Consideration (E4FC), a San Francisco-based non-profit that provides direct support and advocacy for low-income immigrant students who do not yet have legal residency or citizenship.
