Trump’s EPA removed the climate change page from its website in April. Over the weekend, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel gave federal climate change data a new home on his city’s site. Posted to the City of Chicago’s website yesterday (May 7), the “Climate Change is Real” section includes information on extreme weather and links to archived EPA pages. This message sits on the homepage:

The City of Chicago wishes to acknowledge and attribute this information to the United States Environmental Protection Agency and other federal agencies for the decades of work that they have done to advance the fight against climate change. While this information may not be readily available on the agency’s webpage right now, here in Chicago we know climate change is real and we will continue to take action to fight it. 

The EPA climate change website went offline April 28 to “reflect the agency’s new direction under President Donald Trump and Administrator Scott Pruitt,” according to a press release. Emanuel is calling on others to follow his lead: 

“The Trump Administration can attempt to erase decades of work from scientists and federal employees on the reality of climate change, but burying your head in the sand doesn’t erase the problem,” the former Obama advisor said in a press release. “We are going to ensure Chicago’s residents remain well informed about the effects of climate change, and I encourage cities, academic institutions, and others to voice concerns to follow suit to ensure this important information does not disappear.”
