Celebrate Black Cultural Excellence With These Streaming Specials

"Black America Since MLK: And Still I Rise," the Henry Louis Gates Jr.-hosted PBS documentary exploring the cultural and political fortunes of Black America in the years since the Civil Rights Movement, aired the first of two parts last night (November 15). But it wasn’t the night’s only celebration of Black cultural excellence.

BET’s "Love and Happiness: An Obama Celebration" concert special also premiered yesterday. It featured performances from The Roots, Jill Scott, Janelle Monáe, De La Soul and many more Black entertainers at the White House. The evening was the Obamas’ last musical event as sitting president and first lady, and it was packed with praise for the first Black president of the United States.

Both "And Still I Rise" and "Love and Happiness" are available for stream via the websites for PBS and BET, respectively. And the second part of the documentary will air on November 22.
