Today’s love goes to an upcoming documentary about the work of New York photographer and community educator Jamel Shabazz.

Director Charlie Ahearn, who previously made the classic hip hop flick "Wild Style", delves into the stories behind Shabazz’s iconic photographs of the emerging New York hip hop scene in the 1980s, before the style was widely commodified. Through interviews with Shabazz, graffiti pioneer and hip-hop historian Fred "Fab 5 Freddy" Brathwaite, and rapper KRS-One, the film pays tribute to the famous street photographer as well as the style, music, and culture he captured.

"Jamel Shabazz Street Photographer" will debut this Sunday at BAMcinemaFest in Brooklyn.
