75 Years of Love to Puerto Rican Maestro Eddie Palmieri

The nine time Grammy Award winning bandleader turns 75 too.

By Jorge Rivas Dec 15, 2011

Eddie Palmieri, the renowned Latin pianists and leader of both Latin jazz and salsa orchestras, turns 75 today. Born in Spanish Harlem in 1936, [Palmieri](http://eddiepalmierimusic.com/) has a discography that includes 36 titles, nine of which are Grammy-winning albums. On Tuesday Palmieri celebrated his 75th birthday with a performance at the Copacobana in New York City. Colorlines.com had the pleasure of being at the event, organized by [Global Rhythm Group](http://globalrhythmonline.com) and [Urban Latino Media](http://www.urbanlatino.com/), because we held a holiday party in conjunction with Palmieri’s birthday. (We’ve got love for the organizers, too, for bringing racial justice together with Latin jazz! It was an amazing celebration and we look forward to more dancing with them.) So here’s to Eddie Palmieri. ¡Feliz Cumpleaños! +++ We’re ending the day as often as possible by celebrating love. We welcome your ideas for posts.
