Monday marked the 40th year the Los Angeles Unified School District All City Honor Marching Band marched down the Rose Parade.

Los Angeles neighborhoods can be very segregated but one of the common goals for the All City marching band is to bring students from all corners of LA county together; from East Los Angeles, South Los Angeles, the Harbor Area, and the Valley together to create amazing sounds.

The band this year was made up of about 350 members that represent the students, teachers, administrators and employees of the second largest school district in the nation.

The LAUSD all city marching band is one of only four bands allowed to perform in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade. This year the band played a patriotic song, songs by Lady Gage, Stevie Wonder, Kool and the Gang, and a Spanish medley.

An estimated 91% of students enrolled in the LAUSD are of color and 73% of the entire student body in the LAUSD are Latino.

LAUSD arts programs face diminishing budgets every year and if you’d like to make a donation to the All City Marching band visit www.laallcityband.com.
